WE ARE KUKUA
We are a dedicated team of local and international staff and volunteers, working to build a freer, safer and more sustainable life for the world’s most vulnerable.
Kukua is about defending social change and human rights.
Safe walks
Road traffic injuries are now the biggest killer of children and young adults around the world. 90% of fatalities take place in low and middle income countries. Kukua prevents death and injury so that no child has to risk their life on the journey to school.
Safe Kids
Every year around the world, 1 in 2 children is the victim of some form of violence. Nowhere is the danger greater than in low and middle income countries, where children face a greater threat of child abuse.
Kukua is about protecting children and creating a world free of child abuse. Caring for their wellbeing and preventing abuse from occurring in the first place.

Safe Cities
Kukua brings together all relevant stakeholders to address international development issues with local solutions. More than one in every 4 deaths of children under five are related to environmental threats and women and children are the victims of unsafe public spaces and transport.
Kukua puts communities front and center to solve development challenges and build inclusive and sustainable towns and cities for all.
I know of the need for Kukua’s work personally because I taught in Jambiani, Zanzibar. I saw and experienced the need for programs such as Kukua if the young girls and women of Zanzibar are ever to achieve fair and equal opportunities in their societies. It all begins with safety, security and self confidence.
